Beta draft · version 0.5 · 22 Oct 2026
Terms of use
Beta draft. These terms are for the MatchTempo beta. They have not yet had a legal review, and they will be replaced by full terms before launch. If a change is a big one, the app will ask you to agree again before you next use Play.
Who we are
MatchTempo is made by an independent developer in the United Kingdom. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean the people who run MatchTempo. You can contact us at support at matchtempo dot app.
These terms and our privacy policy
These terms are the agreement between you and us for using MatchTempo. Our Privacy policy explains what data we hold, who sees it and how long we keep it. When you sign in and tick "I agree to the Terms and have read the Privacy policy", we keep a record of which versions you agreed to and when.
If you only record your own games on your Watch and don't sign in, these terms still apply to your use of the app. Recording doesn't send your recordings or health readings to our servers.
Who can use MatchTempo
- You must be 18 or over to have an account. A child under 18 can play only if their parent or guardian adds them as a player they look after (see Children). Don't add anyone under 18 in any other way, for example as a guest or as a player who doesn't use the app.
- To start or join a group you need to sign in with Apple or Google. You can record your own games on your Watch without signing in, and anyone can view a shared game link without signing in.
- We use the email address that comes with your Apple or Google sign-in, which with Apple can be a private relay address. You don't type one in, and you can't change it in MatchTempo.
- Keep your Apple or Google account secure. If you think someone else has used your MatchTempo account, email us straight away and we'll look into it.
Children
A parent or guardian can add their child who is under 18 as a player they look after, from You in the app. If you do:
- you confirm you are the child's parent or legal guardian. Only one adult looks after each child, and you can look after up to 4;
- the child can play only in your groups whose minimum age they meet, and only once the manager or an assistant manager says yes. Each group is for people aged 18 and over unless its manager chooses a lower minimum age;
- the child has no account. You reply for them, claim their goals and receive messages about them. They can be voted Player of the Match, but don't vote;
- you are responsible for them at games, including when you aren't playing yourself, and for deciding whether a game is suitable for them;
- you pay for their places, and what these terms say about paying, dropping out and money carried over applies to their places as to yours;
- you tell them what their group will see, as our Privacy policy explains.
You can remove a child at any time. Their name and year of birth are then deleted, and past games show "Removed player". Deleting your account removes the children you look after in the same way.
From 1 January of the year a child turns 18, you can send them a one-time link, which works for 30 days. They sign in with their own Apple or Google account, agree to these terms as an adult and take over the same player, with their places, games, goals, awards and table points. Payments you made for them stay in your payment history, and any money carried over for their places is refunded to you, not passed to them. If they are still under 18, nothing moves.
The beta
MatchTempo is still being built. During the beta:
- features may change, stop working or be removed, and the app may have faults;
- we may reset or move server data if we have to, and will tell you first where we can. A reset never cancels money owed to players;
- the app, recording, running a group and Group Pro are free. If your manager takes payment for games in the app, each payment includes our fee, shown before you pay (see Paying for games).
Recordings are kept on your iPhone and Watch, not by us. They are left out of your iPhone backups unless you turn on "Include recordings in iPhone backups" in Settings, so turn it on if you want them back on a new phone.
Managers and assistant managers
- Each group has one manager, usually the person who started it. The manager can hand the group over to another player, but not while money is owed to players (see Paying for games).
- The manager can make up to 3 players assistant managers. An assistant manager must be a player in the group who has signed in. Assistant managers are part of Group Pro, which is free during the beta.
- Assistant managers help run games: they can schedule and cancel games, record replies, move people in and out of places, add guests, pick teams, record results, scorers and Player of the Match, check goals, make a game void, share a game link and see who has paid.
- Only the manager can add, change or remove players (an assistant manager can also say yes to a child a parent wants to add), handle join links, change the group's settings (such as points, seasons, reply rules, the minimum age and payments), refund money, and add or remove assistant managers.
- An assistant manager stops being one if the manager removes them, if they step down, or if they leave the group or stop being linked to their player.
- Managers and assistant managers must use what they see only to run the group's games. If you agree to be an assistant manager, the parts of these terms that apply to managers apply to you for what you do.
Groups and what other people see
- When you join a group, its members see your name (or the name you choose to show), your squad number and playing preferences, whether you have a place in a game, the teams you play in, your goals, results and awards. They also see who the manager and assistant managers are.
- The manager and any assistant managers also see your replies and when you made them, and notes any of them add. The manager also sees your full name.
- A child is shown in the group with an "U18" marker. The manager and assistant managers also see their last name and their parent or guardian. Outside the group, on game links, share images and share text, a child is shown only as "Under-18 player".
- The manager can add players who don't use the app, and the manager or an assistant manager can add guests for one game. If you add someone, tell them first what the group and anyone with a game link can see, point them to our Privacy policy, and add only what the game needs, such as a first name. If they ask you not to add them, don't.
- A child joins a group only after the manager or an assistant manager says yes. If you say yes, you are responsible, with the child's parent or guardian, for whether your games are suitable and safe for them. MatchTempo doesn't check this.
- Managers and assistant managers are responsible for keeping teams, results and the table accurate. A correction to a result is kept with the reason given.
- Goals you send to the manager carry the goal and the score. They never carry your health data.
- Player of the Match votes are hidden from other players and from managers. Vote honestly, and only for someone who played.
- Keep reasons and notes short and factual. Don't put health details, such as an injury, or anything unkind about someone in a reason or note: members can read the reason a result was corrected or a game was made void.
Replies, places and the waiting list
- When you reply I'm in, the group's rule decides whether you have a place or are on the waiting list. If someone drops out, the first person waiting moves up straight away, so keep your reply up to date.
- Your manager may set a time after which you can't drop out yourself in the app (24 hours before kick-off unless they change it). After that, tell your manager or an assistant manager, who can record it for you. If your group takes payments, dropping out late can mean you still owe for the game (see Paying for games).
- The manager or an assistant manager can always move someone in or onto the waiting list. How places are shared out is up to the group, not us.
Join links
The manager can share a link that lets people join the group. Anyone who signs in and opens it sees the group's name and its players' shown names, and can pick a player straight away, without the manager approving it. So share it only with people you expect to join. A link stops working 30 days after it was made, and the manager can turn it off sooner or make a new one. Only pick the player who is you. If you pick the wrong one, ask your manager to fix it.
Game links
The manager or an assistant manager can share a link to a game. Anyone holding the link can see, without signing in, the group's name, the date and kick-off time, the venue and pitch names, the teams and the players' shown names, the score, the scorers, Player of the Match, the kick-off weather and whether the game was made void. Until the game ends it also shows the venue's address and map location. A link stops working 30 days after kick-off (or 30 days after it was made, if that is later), and the manager or an assistant manager can turn it off sooner.
The game page is for viewing only. Links can be forwarded and screenshots can't be taken back, so share them only with the people who need them. If you want a link removed, ask your manager or email us.
Using MatchTempo fairly
Please don't:
- add anything offensive, threatening or illegal, or details that belong to someone who has asked you not to;
- pretend to be someone else, or claim a player profile that isn't yours;
- add a child unless you are their parent or guardian, or add a child other than as a player you look after;
- try to get into groups, accounts or data that aren't yours, or interfere with how MatchTempo works;
- copy, resell or take data from MatchTempo by automated means;
- use payments for anything other than real games, make a false payment or refund claim, or set up a new game to avoid a refund you owe.
To report something, email us with the group or game and what happened. We'll look into it, and we may remove what someone added, turn off a link, suspend an account or close it. We'll tell the person why unless the law or safety stops us, and they can ask us to look at the decision again.
Health and fitness
MatchTempo measures things like heart rate, distance, calories and recovery to help you understand your games. These figures are estimates. MatchTempo is not a medical device and doesn't give medical advice. Football carries a risk of injury: play within your limits, and speak to a doctor if you have a health condition or feel unwell.
Your recordings and health readings stay on your iPhone and Watch, and in Apple Health if you save workouts there. We don't receive them and your groups don't see them. Our Privacy policy explains Apple Health, backups and deleting recordings.
Kick-off weather
Forecasts in MatchTempo come from Apple Weather, and forecasts can change. Don't rely on them for safety decisions, and check conditions yourself before you play. Apple Weather data sources.
YOUR USE OF THIS REAL TIME WEATHER GUIDANCE APPLICATION OR WEBSITE IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK. WEATHER DATA MAY NOT BE ACCURATE.
This notice doesn't affect your legal rights as a consumer.
Paying for games
A manager can choose to take payment for games in the app. The manager supplies the game: they set the price, run the game and receive the money in their own Stripe account. MatchTempo provides the app and arranges the payment. We aren't the organiser or the venue, and we never hold the money for games. We are responsible for the app and for payments working as these terms describe.
A manager who takes payments must give us a mobile number we can check by text message, complete Stripe's checks, accept Stripe's terms and give accurate details. We pass the mobile number to Stripe as the support number for the manager's payments, so players may see it on card receipts, statements or Stripe's payment pages. The manager can change it by checking a new mobile number in the app. If they run games as a business, they must also give players the information consumer law requires.
If a player disputes a payment with their bank and the bank decides for the player, the money goes back to the player from the manager's Stripe account, and Stripe also charges the manager's account a dispute fee (£20 at the time of writing). The manager is responsible for both. We give our fee on that payment back to the manager. We look at every lost dispute. If it came from a mistake by us or a fault in MatchTempo, we'll cover the dispute fee. Otherwise we may choose to, but we don't have to.
The price and our fee
- The manager sets the price per game. It can include Other costs, such as pitch hire or bibs, and is at most £20 a game before our fee.
- Our fee is 10% of the price per game, or 60p if that is more, and never more than £1. For a £5 game you pay £5.60. Some groups have a lower fee, and the app shows it. A free game has no fee.
- The fee is per place per game. If you pay for a guest, their place has its own price and fee.
- We pay the card fees. You never pay anything extra for paying by card.
- Card payments include Apple Pay and Google Pay. Before you pay, the app shows each game and place, the price, our fee, any carried-over money used and the total. You get a receipt.
- You can pay for 1 to 10 of your games in a group in one payment. Each game is listed and paid for separately, so if one game changes, the others stay paid.
Money carried over
- If you've paid for a place you no longer have, for example because you dropped out before the drop-out time, moved to the waiting list or the game was called off, the price carries over in that group.
- Carried-over money pays for your next game in that group automatically, with no new fee. It doesn't expire, and it can't be moved to another group or another person.
- It is money the manager owes you. We don't hold it. You can ask the manager to refund it: money paid by card goes back to the same card (the price, not our fee, as that payment went through), and money paid outside the app is refunded outside the app.
- If the manager's Stripe account can't cover a refund, the money stays carried over until the manager pays you back outside the app and records it. It is only ever paid back once.
- A manager can't hand over, archive or delete a group while money is owed to players or a refund hasn't finished.
Dropping out
- If you drop out before the drop-out time, the price carries over. Our fee isn't returned.
- If you drop out at or after the drop-out time, you still owe the price unless your place is filled before kick-off, by someone from the waiting list or someone new. If it is filled, you no longer owe it, and anything you paid carries over.
- If you still owe for games, the app may remind you, up to 3 times a game. The manager can choose to stop you replying I'm in while you owe for too many games.
Games called off
- If the manager calls off a game, the price you paid carries over to your next game in that group by default, with no new fee. Our fee for the called-off game isn't returned.
- The manager can choose Refund in full instead. You then get the price and our fee back to your card. The manager pays the card fee that Stripe keeps.
- A called-off game with payments stays called off. It can't be reopened to take money for it another way.
Mistakes, refunds and disputes
- If you were charged wrongly because of a mistake by us, we'll refund the price and our fee and cover the cost. A payment that reaches the wrong manager is refunded in full automatically. Mistakes by a manager, such as a wrong price, are for the manager to put right.
- For questions about a game, ask your manager. For a payment problem, email us with the date and game. Don't send card details.
- You can also go to your bank or card provider. While a dispute is open, refunds from that payment are held until it is settled. If your bank decides for you, it returns the money, and the games that payment covered count as unpaid again.
- For a manager, a lost dispute costs the payment and Stripe's dispute fee, as explained under Paying for games. Please ask your manager or us first, as most problems can be put right without a dispute.
- Nothing here affects your legal rights as a consumer.
Group Pro
Group Pro adds extras for managers, such as assistant managers. It is free during the beta, and you won't be moved onto a paid plan when the beta ends. We plan to charge £2.99 a month or £29.99 a year after the beta. Before you pay anything for Group Pro, we'll show you the price, how it renews, how to cancel and the terms that apply. Your legal rights as a consumer are not affected.
Your account and ending these terms
You can stop using MatchTempo at any time. You can delete your account in the app, in You. Deleting it removes your account and your agreement records. In your groups' past results your first name or shown nickname stays, but it is no longer linked to you and your last name is removed. If you are a group's manager, the app asks you to hand it over first or archives it, once any money owed to players is settled. If you are an assistant manager, you stop being one. Children you look after are removed, as explained in Children. Deleting your account doesn't cancel money you owe or are owed. Our Privacy policy has the details.
We may close MatchTempo or end the beta. If we do, we'll give you reasonable notice where we can and explain how money owed to players will be settled.
Our responsibility to you
We provide MatchTempo with reasonable care and skill. During the beta it may have faults and gaps in service, but that doesn't take away this promise or your legal rights. We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or not using reasonable care and skill.
The manager is responsible for the games they run. We are responsible for our app, for arranging payments and for our own mistakes. We are not responsible for business losses. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit, and nothing affects your legal rights as a consumer.
Changes to these terms
Each version of these terms has a number and a date, shown at the top of this page. For a big change, we'll tell you what has changed and ask you to agree again the next time you open Play. Track and recording on your Watch keep working while you decide. A change never takes away a refund you're already due or raises a price you've already paid. Small changes, such as clearer wording, only update the date and version.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you keep the consumer protections of the law where you live, and you can bring a claim in your local courts. If you have a problem, please email us first and we'll try to sort it out. You can also go to your card provider about a payment. Using our support doesn't stop you using any other legal remedy.
